Two good friends from Reno, DeeDee and Don, were on a visit in Europe. He had to go to the Frankfurt Auto Show and brought DeeDee for a birthday trip.
In between their travels to Frankfurt, Ulm and Italy they managed to be here on October 3rd, the 10th anniversary of the german reunification, and we checked out the Porsche museum and the Volksfest.

The Cannstatter Volksfest - and the Porsche museum, of course

Beer Coach
This is how they used to bring beer to the Volksfest. The Volksfest was declared a public celebration in the early 19th century after the first good harvest after a long famine by the then Württemberg King.
Nowadays the thanksgiving spirit is somewhat in the background and the beer comes in huge stainless steel containers ;-)))

Porsche Porsche
But first we had to check out the Porsche Museum. While you might have expected this... ...you'd probably be surprised by this!
Porsche Porsche
Don with the wildly succesful McLaren-Porsche (well, really TAG...) Formula 1 car. Here the parking lot with all the new cars waiting for shipping. It isn't next to the museum and for that reason most visitors miss it. But of course we knew.... And now on to the Volksfest!!!
Bierzelt Bierzelt
Checking out the beer tent These things are huge!
Bierzelt Bierzelt
The beer is pretty good :-))) Look at the number of glasses!
Bierzelt Bierzelt
They are called "Masskruege". DeeDee is demonstrating how to carry them. Makes me thirsty even looking at this!
Volksfest Lebkuchenherz
Out between the beer tents Hey! Check out the gingerbread heart !
Smile!!! Loop
Mugging for the camera Would you do *that* after having a couple of those beers?
Markt Markt
There's always something like a little market attached to the Volksfest You can buy cool bavarian style shirts there!
Markt Markt
In the S-Bahn on the way back Having one last drink in the Hans im Glück Cocktail Bar in downtown Stuttgart
