The Cannstatter Volksfest - and the Porsche museum, of course |
This is how they used to bring beer to the Volksfest. The Volksfest was declared a public celebration in the early 19th century after the first good harvest after a long famine by the then Württemberg King. Nowadays the thanksgiving spirit is somewhat in the background and the beer comes in huge stainless steel containers ;-))) |
But first we had to check out the Porsche Museum. While you might have expected this... | ...you'd probably be surprised by this! |
Don with the wildly succesful McLaren-Porsche (well, really TAG...) Formula 1 car. | Here the parking lot with all the new cars waiting for shipping. It isn't next to the museum and for that reason most visitors miss it. But of course we knew.... And now on to the Volksfest!!! |
Checking out the beer tent | These things are huge! |
The beer is pretty good :-))) | Look at the number of glasses! |
They are called "Masskruege". DeeDee is demonstrating how to carry them. | Makes me thirsty even looking at this! |
Out between the beer tents | Hey! Check out the gingerbread heart ! |
Mugging for the camera | Would you do *that* after having a couple of those beers? |
There's always something like a little market attached to the Volksfest | You can buy cool bavarian style shirts there! |
In the S-Bahn on the way back | Having one last drink in the Hans im Glück Cocktail Bar in downtown Stuttgart |
